Weaving

                  and

                              Weeding

The K/1s are weaving during math class.  They love to weave! As they weave, the children naturally form a community of weavers, and share their creative experiences. Weaving improves the children's ability to concentrate.  Weaving also helps with the development of fine motor skills. Weaving helps the children build self-confidence, as they experience success.

The last few photos show the K/1s weeding the gardens with the help of their middle school buddies. The children are becoming experts in distinguishing weeds from the plants they planted a couple of weeks ago.

It has been a busy week as the children continued to learn about Mexico and the Sonoran Desert.  The K/1s spent most of language arts and project time reading, writing, and drawing about the Sonoran Desert, particulary the Saguaro Cactus. In Art class the children are making giant Saguaro cacti.  In Spanish class they are practicing their Mexican hat dance to perform at Assembly. In Science class they are exploring desert plants.

We are almost ready for the Show of Work!  Here is a list of what you can expect to see at the Show of Work:  A desert with Saguaro cacti, Amate paintings, drawings and writing of Mexico and the Sonoran Desert, weaving, bird collages and bird poems, birds with movable wings, bird books, and the animal story books the kids made back in January.  We might even have a pyramid if we have time to build it.  If you have more shoe boxes, please send them in Tuesday.

Until next time, Liliana
