Show of Work

The K/1's study of Africa was an interdisciplinary unity of study.  Enjoy!

The K/1's studied sound and made models of African drums in Science class.

We built a Masai hut.  "Nice place to go into our Silence!"

Dad is reading my sister's "I Am Masai" poem.
 More fun in the hut!

We painted wooden beads and made necklaces and bracelets like the Masai people.

We researched African animals and made posters.

We made cards to sell and raise money for Heifer International.  We are donating bees to an African village.

The posters are so beautiful! First the children answered research questions then copied their answers and drew pictures.

The children made big animals in Art class. First they drew pictures of their animals then made 3-D models of the animals.

We read lots of books on African animals and the Masai Tribe.

Our buddies and the 4/5 students came to see our work.

We studied West African strip weaving or Kente cloth.  In Math class we created our own colorful designs on strips of paper.  Also we created our own weaving cloths.

Two middle school students with their K/1 teacher.  They remember studying Africa seven years ago.

We have lots of African animals in the classroom and we have been playing with them almost daily.

We did it!  We have enough money to buy bees for Africa.

We love you Zoe!

Peace,
Liliana
