A Fun First Full Week of School

Hello Everyone,

The K/1's are coming together as a community. It was apparent this week that they are much more comfortable with each other, the classroom, and routines.

Exploring in our very popular Science Center.
Carefully observing and wondering about a rock.

How much does it weigh?

The K/1's have been learning about frogs through observation of our four classroom frogs.  They are making observational drawings with comments, learning about the life cycle of a frog, and reading books about frogs.
Free time in the dress-up corner.Free time is about negotiation of roles, sharing, including others, learning each other's way of being, having fun......

Our very popular set of animals.

Crafting - imagination, creativity,
problem solving,
 small motor, fun.....

The very popular Block Center - math and creativity and so much more

Mystery box - making predictions during science class with Kate, our Science Teacher.

Waiting to begin a science lesson with Liliana on physical changes
and chemical changes.
We made play dough!
We read the ingredients, measured, made predictions,
divided play dough into equal parts,
and learned to explain why making play dough is a
chemical change.

The children loved making play dough and playing with it immensely.
The K/1's explored math together for the week.
They made a class chart of the number of letters in
their names.
Each child also practiced counting and keeping
track of all the classmates' names on a horizontal bar graph.

During language arts the children also clapped the syllabels
in each name and made words with the letters in each child's name.

On Friday afternoon we got together with the 2/3's and worked
together to create the alphabet using our bodies.
The children worked in groups.  They collaborated, problem solved,
negotiated, and had fun.

Until next time.  Have a peaceful week,
Liliana
