BIRDS and More.......

The K/1's began their study of birds of the Northeast.  We watched a video about birds.  We took hikes to look for nests and listen for birds.  We brainstormed what we know about birds and what we would like to know.  We took a close look at our collection of nests. We read books about birds.  In the next few weeks we will continue to learn all about bids.

Our first grade mathematicians are enjoying learning all about Geometry.  The children explored triangles, combined shapes to make hexagons.  They explored polygons and quadrilaterals.  The children also took turns describing shapes and investigating different ways of categorizing shapes. They are presently preparing to create their own shape posters.

Out with Rebecca looking for nests, listening for birds.......

What kind of materials did birds use to make these nests?

Looking closely!

Making observational drawings of  nests

Looking at pictures and reading about birds

What do we notice?

exploring drawing triangles on dot paper

How many different shapes can I use to fill in
hexagons?

How many triangles can I draw on this dot paper?

I think I drew a very nice triangle!

Triangles can look different!

What fun!

Not easy but I did it!  It looks like a triangle!

Categorizing shapes according to specific rules takes some thinking!
I'm cutting out shapes so I can sort them and make my own shape poster.

Taking my turn writing the morning message is so much fun!
