This morning the K/1's proudly presented their Show of Work. It was a culminating celebration of many weeks of exploration of the theme Farm to Table. It was an integrated study across language arts, science, and art. The K/1's learned about all aspects of farming, different types of farms, and they researched Farm Community Workers. Each child researched a different community worker, so sixteen in all community workers were studied. The Farm Community Workers reflected the journey food makes from farm to table. The K/1's studied how water moves across the land to reach plants and animals, and had fun building a model of an irrigation system in the sand table. The K/1's studied grains as they focused on exploring bread. Their exploration of breads of the world will continue through the year.
This morning the children showed their work with joy and loved the attention they received from their families and visitors from around the school. The children shared their posters, the "Farm" books, the class book "I Am Water," and the beautiful murals they made in art depicting the farm community workers' journey from farm to table.
